A love of beer, food and science lead to the study of a BSC-Hons in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. The course included a brewing placement at Carlsberg-Tetley’s utilising a particle analyser to count and size particles throughout the process & experience within a large multinational.
A strong, lifelong relationship with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling began. He holds a Dipl.Brew from them & has attended many other courses and events. At Belhaven Brewery he gained brewing, technical, quality and laboratory experience.
A move to St Austell Brewery as Technical Brewer further develops brewing, management, quality and food safety skills as part of a highly successful brewing team with a diverse and highly respected beer range.
Saw a change of direction into brewing supply at Murphy and Son in technical sales and support. Murphy and Son manufacture, supply and support brewing aids and treatments across the globe and offer a diverse and extensive range of brewing supplies in the UK.
Was a significant change with a personal move to Germany and a professional move to cover European technical sales. Leading the European expansion, building strong partnerships & helping brewers to improve, reduce and save. Although passionate about German beers the move rekindles the love of home brewing to brew styles less common in Bavaria. Fortunately Mr Malt are there to help with supply! He therefore becomes both a supplier and a customer with Mr Malt.
He starts a role with Caldic Brew & Mr Malt. The existing relationships & product knowledge should provide a strong foundation to build upon. He looks forward to -exploring Italian brewing and beer more deeply

His passion for beer springs at a summer beer fest in Austria, where he discovers “unfiltered” beer. He then gets to know the various beers styles and finds out about homebrewing, starting to read and collect books on brewing techniques and ingredients as he still does today.
After building his first fermentation chamber, in January he brews his first and last beer from hopped malt extracts. Subsequently he buys the all-in-one set up he is still using today, after several upgrades. He joins the local homebrewer association as an active member and then as part of the board. In the following years, he enters the training team of the association, holding workshops on tasting, ingredients and brewing techniques. In the meantime, he keeps studying and qualifies as a Unionbirrai Beer Taster.
In 2019 he leaves his job as a computer technician to join Mr. Malt®. In his role of Technical & Sales Back Office he keeps cultivating his passion for craft beer.
In 2022 he succeeds in Module 1 of the Diploma in Brewing by the Institute of Brewing and Distilling of London.
In 2024, after completing both Module 2 and Module 3 with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London, he finishes the course and earns the Diploma in Brewing.
